What Happens Before a Muslim Funeral

N

When the Death Occurs at the Hospital

A Certificate of the Cause of Death (CCOD) will be issued by the attending doctor after he certifies the cause of death. Family of the deceased can obtain the CCOD after producing the deceased’s identification card.

If the death occurs without a known cause, the body will be sent to the Mortuary@HSA for further review. Thereafter, family members will be notified by the police to claim the body.

N

When the Death Occurs at Home

Contact the deceased’s attending doctor after the death has occurred. Alternatively, contact a neighbourhood doctor who is willing to make a house call if the attending doctor is not available. A CCOD will be issued after the cause of death has been identified.

Call the police if you are unable to locate a doctor. The body will be transported to the Mortuary@HSA in a police hearse. Members of the family will then be informed by the police to claim the body once it is ready.
